The arrival of Fall may mean the end of pool days, bathing suits, and shorts and t-shirts, but it doesn’t have to mean the end of your fitness goals. It’s easy to stay motivated during the summertime when you often find yourself in a swimsuit or tank tops, however it is important to stick with your fitness goals even during the chillier weather.

Here are 5 Fall fitness tips to help you stay motivated during this beautiful season.

Fall can be the most stunning time of the year, so what better time to lace up your sneakers and head outside for a good sweat session. With the trees changing colors and the leaves littering the ground, Fall can provide a beautiful backdrop for your outdoor run, walk, hike, or bike ride. Research parks and hiking trails near you where you can enjoy a fun outdoor workout with friends and family.

Take advantage of Fall produce

It’s not just the outdoors that are bursting with rich colors during the Fall season. The seasonal Fall produce is colorful, delicious and will help you stay on track with your fitness goals. A few of the mouthwatering produce selections you’ll find this time of year include crisp apples, juicy pears, figs and sweet potatoes. Take progress pictures

Take pictures to track your fitness progress. The scale is not the end all be all when it comes to reaching your fitness goals. Often the number on the scale is not an accurate representation of the progress you’ve really made. When it comes to cooler weather, you may find yourself wearing chunkier sweaters, baggy sweatshirts and long pants more often so it can be difficult to keep track of your body’s current state. Before or after each workout, be sure to take progress pictures so you can continue to watch how your body changes as a result of all of the hard work you are putting in! This will also help to keep you motivated because you will be able to see that your hard work is continuing to pay off.

Wear those layers

It’s officially that time of year when you wear a sweater in the morning and regret it in the afternoon. While Fall mornings are often quite chilly, Fall afternoons tend to feel a lot like Summer. So, if you head out for a workout or even just to run errands, make sure you layer up with cooler clothes on the bottom and a sweatshirt or jacket on top. This way, when you are out on your walk or run and your body starts to warm up, you can easily shed your jacket and simply tie it around your waist for the remainder of the workout. A hat is also a good idea as it insulates your head which is where you lose the most heat.

Live a balanced life

When Fall arrives it often means the return of all our favorite TV shows. It is wonderful to be able to relax on the couch with your favorite drink snuggled up with your favorite person, however it is important to not become a couch potato this time of year. Set a goal to get in a workout BEFORE you watch your nightly lineup of TV shows. Whether you work out in the morning before work, during your lunch break, or right when you get home, you will be able to enjoy your shows even more knowing that you broke a sweat and earned that glass of wine.
